NYSUT's Education & Learning Trust (elt.nysut.org) provides innovative professional learning for teachers and School-Related Professionals that is affordable and flexible, modeled on best practices and current research-based strategies.

ELT offers a wide variety of learning opportunities that include courses for undergraduate, graduate and in-service credit; college programs that lead to master's degrees; and seminars, both site-based and online, to meet the needs of NYSUT members, whether for professional growth or certification purposes.

As an approved CTLE provider, ELT's courses and seminars can be used toward CTLE hour fulfillment. ELT instructors are the best in their profession.

Union leaders, school district officials and Teacher Center directors have come to depend upon ELT's dynamic instructors over the past 40 years for professional learning of the highest quality. Urgent Message Regarding Health Insurance

NYSUT sent out a notice earlier this year regarding the NYSHIP dependent eligibilty audit. The audit was directed strictly to those members with family Empire Plan coverage and who obtain their health coverage through school districts of local governements.

April 15, 2016, was the deadline for participants to submit verifying dependent information to the plan for the purpose of coverage. It was reported yesterday that as of 04/14/16, 26,000 Empire Plan participants had not submitted their dependent verification information. Eligible retirees receiving a monthly benefit of any amount from NYSTRS will see a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) of 1.0% on the first $18,000 of their annual benefit payment beginning this September, the result of legislation enacted in New York 15 years ago.

Good News for Retirees Living in North Carolina

NYSUT reported this morning that United Healthcare (UHC) and the
Carolinas Health Care System (CHS) have reached a contractual agreement,
resulting in the return of all CHS physicians to The Empire Plan
network. The effective date will be retroactive to March 1, 2015,
ensuring that Empire Plan enrollees and dependents do not experience any
interruption in their network benefits for services received from CHS
providers. Any questions regarding CHS providers or claims should be
directed to UHC by calling The Empire Plan at 1-877-7-NYSHIP
