The 2016 NYSUT Community Volunteer Award was presented to Don Seubert of Sachem for his continuing volunteer efforts in the Medford community on June 6th at the RC23 Spring Luncheon.
Before and during his retirement, Don has been active in the Medford Taxpayers and Civic Association, serving as Vice President. He organized meetings and speakers and kept the community informed regarding many civic issues. He worked on the 2003 revitalization of the Medford Train Station and the development of the 911 Garden, and continues to this day to lend his hand in the gardening duties there and also in Toth Square on Route 112. Don is also a member of ABCO (Allied Brookhaven Civic Organizations) and has worked on the Medford Hamlet Plan, the Carmen’s River Plan, and most currently the effort to stop the Medford Casino on the service road of the LIE. In the past, Don has volunteered at St. Sylvester’s RC Church. Don was an active union member while working in the Sachem School District, serving as a building rep and working the phone banks for elections.
Also honored at the luncheon were Harmon Walker of Three Village and Fran LaDuca of Northport. They received the NYSUT 25th Anniversary of the Retiree Councils Award for their continuing work and dedication to RC 23.
