Our Annual luncheon was held at the Three Village Inn on October 1st. The weather was beautiful and the food great. President Dennis Flamenbaum welcomed the Hauppauge chapter to RC 23. He announced the upcoming Retiree Conference to be held on November 19th at the Woodbury Country Club. Workshops will cover changes in Medicare and NYSHIP coverage and Elder Law and trust planning. Dennis also announced the creation of RC 23’s new website. More information about it will appear in our next newsletter. VOTE/COPE coordinator June Smith discussed the issues in the November elections. NYSUT has not endorsed a candidate for Governor. A list of endorsed candidates can be found on the NYSUT website. Endorsements are made on the basis of the candidate’s support for education issues. NYSUT Phone banks will be open on Tuesdays for volunteers to call retirees to get out the vote.
A highlight of our luncheon is the raffle of gifts donated by our member chapters.
